How to reach Nainital by rail is a most popular question, Nainital, a quaint hill station in Uttarakhand, draws tourists in large numbers from across the country and abroad, each year. The place is simply beautiful and the nearest railway station here is Kathgodam Railway Station. How to reach Nainital from Kathgodam is not an issue as there are several cabs available from outside. Reaching Nainital is easy as the place enjoys good connectivity with the rest of the country. Additionally, a number of buses and trains ply regularly from cities like New Delhi, Lucknow, Kolkata and Agra to Nainital. - Kathgodam(35 Kms.) away is the last terminus of broad gauge line of North East Railways connecting Nainital with Delhi, Dehradun & Howarah. Haldwani(40 Kms.) & Lalkuwan(56 Kms.) are other railway terminals.
- Ranikhet Express start from Jaisalmer(Rajasthan) departs from Old Delhi railway station at 10:05 PM daily to Kathgodam, it reaches Kathgodam at 5:05 AM. Extra coaches for Ramnagar are attached with this train , arriving Ramnagar at 4:50 A.M.
- Uttaranchal Sampark Kranti Express is also running between Kathgodam & Delhi, it start from Kathgodam at 8:45 AM in the morning and reaches Delhi at 3:25 PM and on the same day return from Delhi at 4:00 PM and reaches Kathgodam at 10:45 PM.
- Kathgodam New Delhi Shatabdi Express runs between Kathgodam & New Delhi Railway station on every day of weak except on Thursday . It starts from New Delhi at 6:20 AM & reaches Kathgodam at 11:40 AM and on the same day returns from Kathgodam at 3:35 PM & reaches New Delhi at 08:50 PM.
- Bagh Express connects Kathgodam directly to Howrah via Lucknow.
- Kathgodam Dehradun Express train runs daily in between Kathgodam and Dehradun via Moradabad.
A weekly train Garib Rath introduced between Jammu Tawi, Kathgodam & Kanpur. This train starts from Jammu Tawi on Sunday, reaches Kathgodam on Monday. On same same day it travel to Kanpur & return to Kathgodam on Tuesday & in evening runs from Kathgodam to Jammu Tawi.
Tourist coming by rail mode can take Taxi or Buses from Kathgodam or Haldwani. Taxis are available on shared seat basis at Haldwani Taxi stand & as well as at Kathgodam & Lalkuan railway stations. While most of the buses starts from Haldwani roadways bus stand. Computerized railway reservation counter is situated near Bus Stand at Nainital . This facility is also available at Kathgodam, Haldwani & Lalkuwan railway stations .
